Puppy Portraits

Well, I’ve always been an animal lover. And as my dad says, the stranger was always in more danger when I was little. So you can imagine how annoyingly excited I was around cute little doggy fluff balls, horses and cats. Growing up, this hasn’t really changed. And as such, the opportunity to draw cute little puppehs and kitties something I love getting to do for work! (#blessed …is that still a thing?)

Looking at the details that make up each little personality is really important. What sort of markings do they have? How do they smile? Which picture captures the expression in their eyebrows AND includes their whole body in the photo?? (Fingers crossed there’s one…) These are the questions I’m asking when looking through the different images that clients supply of their beloved fur people.

I love working in graphite (fancy word for pencil) when drawing pet portraits. Even as a starting point for a watercolour portrait I’ll do a lot of work in graphite first. And weirdly, I know I’m on the right track to capturing their personality when I’m looking at the sketch and giggling. That’s generally when I know it’s close to done.

So yes, I love the pets! If you’d like a portrait done, get in touch! I’ll sharpen my pencil, grab a coffee, and get going on alllll the HAAAAIRRR.
